IC² Executive Director
Art Markman, PhD is a professor of psychology and marketing at the University of Texas at Austin and Executive Director of the IC² Institute. For the past 10 years, a key area of focus for him is on the human side of business. He was founding director of the Program in the Human Dimensiosn of Organizations, which brings the humanities and social and behavioral sciences to masters students and undergraduates interested in business, government, nonprofits, and the military. He brings insights from cognitive science to broader audiences through his blogs at Psychology Today and Fast Company and his radio show/podcast Two Guys on Your Head as well as his books including Smart Thinking, Smart Change, and his new book Bring Your Brain to Work.
At the IC² Institute, Art has taken his interest in the human side of business to promote research on the development of innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems in rural regions and small isolated cities around the world. The institute is bringing its 40-year track record as a leading think-and-do tank to support research and spur the creation of programs to help rural regions understand and solve the unique problems they face as they expand economic opportunity. The institute believes that rural regions and small cities have a crucial role to play in the economy and that the collaborative culture of IC² offers an ideal opportunity to connect with groups around the country and around the world to share ideas and to push research forward to understand, support and strengthen the unique dynamics that build strong rural communities.
